3-ingredient bagel ðŸ¥¯

INGREDIENTS​

​​BASE

  • 1¾ CUP self-raising flour (healthier version: 1¾ CUP whole grain flour with 3½ TEASPOONS baking powder and a pinch of salt), have a little bit more flour extra for when you knead the dough

  • 1 CUP (250GRAMS) greek yogurt, whole or 0% fat 

  • 1 egg, beaten

TOPPINGS (1-2 TEASPOONS MAX.)

  • sesame seeds, black or white

  • poppy seeds

  • pumpkin seeds

  • flaxseeds

  • oats

  • flake or corse kosher salt (JUST A SPRINKLE)

  • cinnamon + raisin 

  • everything bagel: poppy seeds, black sesame seeds, white sesame seeds, dried minced garlic, dried minced onion, salt 

    • ratio (2 : 1 : 1 : 1 â…“ + 1 â…“ ​: â…”)

STEPS

  1. PREHEAT THE OVEN TO 200°C(390°F).

  2. IN A LARGE BOWL, POUR IN GREEK YOGURT AND FLOUR. STIR IN A MOTION WHERE YOU MAKE AN "O" WITH YOUR SPATULA AROUND THE BOWL AND THEN YOU CUT THROUGH THE DOUGH, MAKING AN "I" DOWN THE MIDDLE. DO THIS UNTIL YOU HAVE A SOLID DOUGH BALL.

  3. SPRINKLE YOUR WORKING SURFACE WITH A THIN LAYER OF FLOUR AND PUSH DOWN ONTO THE DOUGH AND FOLDING THE SIDES IN AND REPEAT UNTIL YOU HAVE A DOUGH THAT IS ONLY A TAD BIT STICKY TO THE HAND. 

  4. DIVIDE THE DOUGH INTO 4 EQUAL PIECES.

  5. USE YOUR THUMB TO PUSH THE OUTTER PARTS OF THE DOUGH INWARDS TOWARDS THE MIDDLE OF THE DOUGH. ONCE THE DOUGH IS ROUND ENOUGH, PIERCE THROUGH THE MIDDLE TO MAKE THE BAGEL HOLE.

  6. REWORK AND THE HOLE SO THAT THE DIAMETER IS ABOUT 4-5CM (1.5-2IN). 

    • THIS STEP IS IMPORTANT OR ELSE YOUR BAGELS' HOLE WILL CLOSE DURING BAKING AND WILL HAVE UNCOOKED SPOTS.​

  7. LINE YOUR BAKING TRAY WITH PARCHMENT PAPER.

  8. BRUSH EGG WASH GENEROUSLY ON THE BAGEL.

  9. POUR TOPPINGS INSIDE A SHALLOW BOWL AND PLOP YOUR EGG-WASH SIDE OF THE BAGEL DOWN INTO THE BOWL WTH TOPPINGS. FLIP IT BACK UP IN YOUR HAND AND MOVE (TAPPING MOTION) SOME TOPPINGS INTO THE HOLE AND SPREAD SOME TOPPINGS ONTO THE OUTTER RIM OF THE BAGEL FOR AN EVEN DISTRIBUTION.

  10. LAY THE BAGELS ABOUT 5CM (2IN) APART ON THE BAKING TRAY AND BAKE FOR 20-23 MINUTES OR UNTIL GOLDEN BROWN.

  11. TAKE THE BAGELS OUT AND LET THEM SIT FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES TO COOL AND YOU ARE READY TO SLICE AND STUFF THEM UP!
