EGG-IN-A-HOLE GRILLED CHEESE sandwich 🍳

flippin' delicious

PREP TIME: 2 MINUTES

COOK TIME: 10-15 MINUTES

TOTAL TIME: UNDER 20 MINUTES

YIELDS: ONE SERVING

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 PIECES of bread, sliced to 1.5cm thickness

  • 1  TABLESPOON butter

  • 1 glass

  • 2 SLICES of cheese

  • 1 egg (small works best)

  • pinch of salt and pepper

STEPS

  1. PLACE ONE SLICE OF BREAD ON A CUTTING BOARD AND FLIP THE GLASS UPSIDE-DOWN TO USE THE RIM OF THE GLASS TO CUT OUT A HOLE IN THE BREAD. SPREAD BUTTER EVENLY ON BOTH SIDES OF EACH SLICE OF BREAD, INCLUDING THE CIRCULAR CUT OUT.

  2. PLACE THE SIDE THAT ARE GOING TO THE TOP PART OF THE SANDWICH AND THE SIDE WHERE THE CHEESE WILL BE ON DOWN ON THE PAN TO START TOASTING OVER MEDIUM-HIGH HEAT. ONCE TOASTED (TO YOUR LIKING, USUALLY TAKES AROUND 2-5 MINUTES), TURN HEAT DOWN TO MEDIUM-LOW AND FLIP THE BREAD OVER TO THE OTHER SIDE (DON'T FORGET THAT LITTLE CUT-OUT PIECE!)

  3. CRACK THE EGG INTO THE HOLE, SPRINKLE A PINCH OF SALT AND PEPPER.

  4. LAY THE SLICES OF CHEESE ONTO THE OTHER PIECE OF BREAD.

  5. IF YOU HAVE A LID THEN PUT IT ON, THE EGG WILL COOK FASTER. IF NOT (AND YOU WANT A WELL-DONE EGG):

    • LOWER THE HEAT DOWN MORE TO COOK THE EGG WITHOUT BURNING THE BREAD.

    • FLIP THE BREAD OVER LIKE A SUNNY SIDE UP.

    • USE A MICROWAVE AFTER YOU ASSEMBLE THE SANDWICH FOR 10-20 SECONDS ON 700-900W.

  6. ONCE THE EGG IS NOT RUNNY AND THE CHEESE IS MELTED, PLACE THE PIECE WITH THE EGG ONTO THE PIECE WITH THE CHEESE AND PRESS DOWN ON THE SIDES TO SEAL THE PIECES TOGETHER. IF THE EGG IS STILL RUNNY AND YOUR BREAD IS WELL-TOASTED, PUT THE SANDWICH INTO THE MICROWAVE (CHECK STEP 5).

    • tip: drizzle some Sriracha or chili-flakes gives it a nice little kick ;)
